It is possible to find your life purpose.

It is possible to realize that there is a destiny. A traced path that you must to thread on.

If you walk on this path, the universe supports you, although along the journey you’ll probably take endless twists and turns, getting stuck over and over, because of your own mind, your desires, your resistances.

But if there is a destiny in store for you, if there’s a path that ultimately you must walk, if everything is written so that you can accomplish your mission, what’s in the way? Why isn’t life a lot easier?

Well, if the path is indeed traced, the only thing standing in the way is… YOU.

You see, this is the kind of stuff which is almost never discussed in personal development. For marketing purposes, you’re often sold on the idea that once you figure out your life purpose, things will get easier. That you will be infused with passion, that you will flow naturally towards the goal, that you’ll find fulfillment in everything you do.

Lies. Once you figure out your life purpose, things will get harder.

Let’s be careful with this. A life without purpose is indeed a life of quiet desperation and often not even quiet. Finding your life purpose, which is a tough journey in and of itself, has the potential indeed to make your life amazing. But it’s not the kind of amazing you’re probably thinking of right now. It’s not the cushy, comfortable, sweet, rewarding, ego-pleasing, flattering, sensational kind of life.

It’s going to be the true good life, which is also a damn hard life.

So why will things get harder? Essentially because from the moment you discover your life purpose, you’ll also become your own greatest enemy. As the path outside is traced and clear, and no hero’s journey is without a felon, then the felon can’t be anywhere else than within you.

You will notice that with each step on this path, something within you will try to resist and distract you. And that something, your mind, is very sneaky. It will use distractions, cravings, resistances, laziness and anything else in its power to seduce you off the path.

But above everything else, it will start to use the tool that exerts the most power on you: fear.

Yes my friend, this is the unspoken truth of life purpose: once you fulfill your destiny and walk that path, although extremely rewarding and fulfilling at times, you’ll experience tremendous amounts of fear.

With every new step along the journey will come fear. And it’s often a completely irrational fear.

I noticed this along my own journey, every time I take a significant step right in the direction of my purpose, incredible fear starts to arise, and I subconsciously begin to look for distractions, excuses, other important deadlines, or whatever it takes to put that decision or step in the backburner for a while.

And the funny thing is: when I examine what I have to do carefully, it’s often something much less scary than a lot of other stuff I’ve previously done in life. But it happens to be right in the direction of my destiny. And that’s enough for the mind to blow it out of proportion.

Fear is ultimately illusory. So when you take that step towards your destiny, you’ll often realize that whatever you feared was not only safe, but also enjoyable. You may fear starting a big project, but once you take each step individually, you realize they feel enjoyable and the most unsurmountable obstacle may even look petty. And yet fear will kick in again and again, no matter how many times you pierce through the illusion.

This is what you need to stomach if you’re fully on board with living your life purpose. Once you find it, know you’ve only found an uphill, long, tough, painful – and scary – climb. With breathtaking views along the way. That’s what you’re signing up for. But that’s the kind of amazing life that – at the soul level – you ultimately want.

The hard life, the scary life, the good life.
